Havana Meets Kingston Goes to Liverpool

A unique and captivating musical collaboration bringing together a dream line up from Jamaica and Cuba will be showcased in Liverpool this summer as part of Africa Oyé's 30th-anniversary celebrations.

Havana Meets Kingston will take place on Sunday 31st July 2022 at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Returning to the UK after a stunning performance at the BBC Proms, Havana Meets Kingston will explore the musical output of the two Caribbean islands in what's set to be a spellbinding show at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

The groundbreaking project honours both islands’ incredible musical foundations and legacies, melding Jamaican sound system and bass culture with Cuba’s electrifying and virtuosic Afro-Cuban and jazz traditions to create something entirely new.

Produced by leading reggae and dancehall producer and accomplished pianist DJ Mista Savona - the 'supergroup' includes some of Cuba and Jamaica’s most influential musicians. ‘Havana Meets Kingston’ sees this incredible team of musicians come together to bend and twist genres effortlessly.

The concert focuses on the styles that the islands are most known for: roots reggae, dub, and dancehall on the one hand, and son, salsa, rumba, and Afro-Cuban on the other. 'Havana Meets Kingston' has an extraordinary combination of artists that seamlessly bend and twist genres, with exceptional results.
