While the Kingston music scene has been moving ahead with new genres such as one-beat and trap dancehall, international music scenes are just catching up with the dancehall soundscape. While reggae is still the biggest and most popular genre in Europe and North America.
Traditional dancehall is now being borrowed and sampled by pop artists globally. In recent years global stars such as Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Rhianna and Drake have been dipping in the dancehall pot to score mega hits.
