Famed Video Director Opens His Dancehall Archives

Leo O'Reggio is one of the pioneers of video production in the Jamaican music scene. In the late 1980s, when video became an integral part of music promotion, Leo directed some of the first on-location videos of the dancehall genre. His early video helped launch the career of many dancehall legends, including general trees, Lieutenant Stitchie, Admiral Bailey, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.

The famed director was also responsible for recording hundreds of fo dances and sound clashes featuring some of the popular roots sound systems of the 1980s when the dancehall genre struggled for recognition in the mainstream.

In the 1990s, at the peak of dancehall ascendancy, O'Reggio was the go-to director for many videos for artists signed to major American record labels. The director has now made his catalogue of dancehall events available through his YouTube channel and his website.
