Sax in Dub Proves Dubbing is a Must

Legendary musician and producer Dean Fraser has released a new dub album titled "Sax In Dub."

The set has 19 songs, with the versatile Fraser leading top musicians on classic rub-a-dub rhythms like "Big Red Bum Ball", "Heathen", "Bangarang", and "Answer".

There is also ‘Belafonte’s Ghost’, a tribute to the American actor/singer/activist who died in 2023. “Mi grow up on dub, mi come up in the roots-reggae era. This is a side of the music that kinda get forgotten, so wi show respect with these songs,” said Fraser.

Helping him to show that respect are some of the musicians who made their names in dub during the 1970s including bassist Lloyd Parks, drummer Sly Dunbar, keyboardists Robbie Lyn and Franklin “Bubbler” Waul and guitarist Dwight Pinkney.

Bassist Donald “Danny Bassie” Dennis and guitarist Mitchum “Khan” Chin of The Firehouse Crew, who learned the ropes of dub visionary Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock, also played on ‘Sax in Dub’. So too young turks Okeil McIntyre (trumpet), Oshabe Love (saxophone)and Randy Fletcher on trombone.
