To the more than 40 names announced just a month ago, the festival now adds the legendary reggae band from Birmingham, UB40, to the list. Who will share their 45 years of musical experience on Main Stage led by Ali Campbell, founding member and lead singer of the group.
The musical feast continues with a German-Jamaican trident. Headed by the well-known German-born reggae musician Gentleman, Protoje & The Indiggnation and Johnny Osbourne, who embody the potential of the younger reggae scene on the Caribbean island and the legacy of the Jamaican legend that is Johnny Osbourne, with a career spanning more than half a century.
The internationality and musical versatility of the new line-up for Rototom Sunsplash 2023 is also reflected in the incorporation of the Argentine rapper Trueno one of the major artists of hip hop in Latin America, and Queen Omega from Trinidad and Tobago, one of the richest voices on the world reggae scene, who will represent in Benicàssim along with The Royals Souls.
Also joining the Main Stage for this 28th edition are the Jamaican singers Willi Williams and Linval Thompsalong with Lone Ark, the stage name of Cantabrian producer Roberto Sanchez, which reinforces the Spanish flavour on Main Stage that welcomes emerging talents from the Spanish scene, such as Barcelona's Adala.
The Rototom Sunsplash line-up is growing and branching out with the new names that will perform on another of the festival's musical hubs, the Lion Stage, with Pongo, an exponent of the influence of contemporary kuduro with Angolan roots; the Argentine roots reggae Nonpalidece; Train to Roots, one of the most outstanding groups on the Italian reggae scene; and the Mexicans Som Rompe Pera, at the forefront of the contemporary international cumbia scene.
The London-based trio Gaudi + Don Letts ft Earl16; Katchafire from New Zealand; the Jamaican Jaz Elise; and the Americans Indubious complete a large international cast accompanied by national acts, with Las Ninyas del Corro and Drop Collective.
The Dancehall also adds to its programme with the Jamaican singer Chi Ching Ching; Code Red Sound (Jamaica); Dj Lion, from the Andalusian sound King Wadada celebrating its 30th anniversary; and Phonatics from Germany.
The Rototom Sunsplash thereby strengthens its line-up that was inaugurated a few weeks ago with figures such as Barrington Levy, Capleton and the recent Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid, along with Junior Marvin, guitarist of Bob Marley's Wailers; Don Carlos and the legendary Steel Pulse from the UK; as well as acts from the African reggae scene, with Yemi Alade from Nigeria and the Ivorian Tiken Jah Fakoly; and France, with L'Entourloop and Biga Ranx.
