Landmark Partnership forged between Jamaica's Premier Football League and Jamaican Popular Music

On May 19, award winning dancehall producer Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston will be honored for his contribution to the reggae/dancehall genre at the finals of the Jamaica Premier League football competition at the National Stadium.

The announcement was made by chairman of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited, PFJL, Christopher Williams.

Dancehall singjay Nigel Hector, aka Nigy Boy, who rose to fame a few months ago with Rvssian-produced hit singles Continent and Judgement, has been hand-picked by the producer to be a special guest at the celebration.

"It’s definitely a great honor and privileged to be one of a few dancehall acts that will be gracing the stage with Rvssian at the national stadium," Nigy Boy told Riddim Style.

"It’s been nothing but success working with him on the Supreme Ventures money time jackpot campaign, as well as my two hit songs Continent and Judgement, which he producd. I gotta give him maximum respect for providing me the opportunity to collaborate on both projects and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us going forward," Nigy shared.

PFJL boss Williams said the National Stadium event, dubbed the Jamaica Premier League Super Final, will signal the start of a historic new collaboration between the JPL and dancehall music.

Asked about his thoughts about Rvssian being honoured at a football match, the visually impaired singjay, who is leading a dancehall renaissance, said, "I do believe the marriage of dancehall and football is a perfect match. I personally enjoy the sport because of the competitiveness and excitement it produces, and I think adding dancehall to the mix will boost the excitement of the sport to another level."
