"My Brother's Keeper" has always been more than a song title for Kardinal Offishall - it's a living philosophy. Born in Toronto, Canada to Jamaican parents, Kardinal has spent over three decades channeling the immigrant experience, community solidarity, and Caribbean pride into music that resonates globally.
"Part 2" deepens this narrative. The collaboration with NESTA is itself an embodiment of the record's message: lifting up your brother, sharing the platform, and building together. The record carries the weight of lived experience while pointing forward with hope and purpose.
"'My Brother’s Keeper Part 2' represents foundation reggae with a splash of rap, brought to you by a 1st generation Jamaican-Canadian and one of the hottest newcomers, who happens to be a first generation Jamaican-American," shared Kardinal. "Together, we represent the present and the future of the culture and sound, in one song.”
Musically, the track has Kardinal leaning into the reggae side of his signature reggae/dancehall-infused hip-hop with modern production sensibilities, anchored by powerful lyricism and an infectious energy that moves from the speakers to the soul.
"Blessed to be a part of this chune with my bro Kardinal after being inspired by him since a youth," offered NESTA in a social media post. The Queens, NY native continued, "he's one of the legends that helped open the gates for first gen youths like myself born outside of Jamaica to be able to express all sides of who we are, unapologetically."
The duo had the opportunity to discuss the experience and premiere the track during Kardinal Offishall's recent Toronto Carnival Takeover of the Ebro Show on Apple Music. Kardi was also joined by a cast of Caribbean heavyweights, including Jamaican pop icon Shaggy, the legendary King of Soca music, Machel Montano, Trinidadian superstar Kes, as well as Trinidadian hitmaker GBM Nutron, DJ Rennie of Toronto's Deh'ya Sound, pioneering soca DJ, Dr. Jay de Soca Prince, and DJ-MC-producer Walshy Fire, formerly of groundbreaking Miami-based Jamaican sound system Black Chiney, and currently of electronic dance music and DJ group Major Lazer.
