The organisers of Africa Oyé Festival announced that Oumou Sangaré, Fuse ODG, and Eek-A-Mouse would headline this year's free celebration of African and Caribbean culture in Liverpool, among a slew of other outstanding artists.
Following a two-year break caused by the pandemic, the festival will return to Sefton Park on June 18th and 19th, 2022, marking the organisation's 30th anniversary.
Africa Oyé began in 1992 as a series of shows in the city centre and has since grown into one of Liverpool's most renowned yearly events, bringing musicians and fans from all over the world.
Few musicians have had as much impact on the dancehall scene as Eek-A-Mouse, who has been described as 'ludicrous, strange, and uniquely creative.' In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he became a household name in Jamaica after re-inventing a new singing style, sing-jay. Mafia & Fluxy, a British reggae rhythm section and production combo, will accompany him at Oyé.
Fuse ODG, a British-Ghanaian superstar, rose to prominence in the London rap industry after growing up in the city. The producer and singer, born Nana Richard Abiona, has been a pioneer of the global emergence of Afrobeats and an active influence in assisting young people in his local areas to realise their musical goals through a mobile studio.
