Cutty Ranks, one of the big stars of dancehall in the 1990s, has managed to reinvent himself. He is making waves in new markets in Latin America, and the drum and bass scene in the UK and Europe. Since his massive comeback with El Chombo’s ‘Dame Tu Cosita’ in 2018, the artist has been collaborating with a diverse range of artists and producers from the Latin market, the UK and the eastern Caribbean.
Among new releases featuring Cutty Ranks in recent years are, ‘Stay Down Low’ (2018) OYE! & Kassiano also feat. On the reggae riddim “Jitta’ Cutty Ranks teams up with Dub-Stuy on Double Trouble.
In 2019 Cutty Ranks continued his collabs with a diverse group of artists with recordings such as, ‘No Te Enamores’ featuring K7, the frontman of the Latin freestyle group TKA. His solo effort was a track called ‘Dale’ a Spanish influenced track which was promoted as the follow up to Dame Tu Cosita and uses the ‘Murder She Wrote’ Riddim.
So far this year there is another remix of Chombo’s ‘Dame Tu Cosita’ this time featuring Pitbull, El Chombo and Karol G. The latest single ‘Natural Beauty’ features new comer Akeem who is signed the deejay Tropic House Music imprint. The veteran deejay also teamed up with the group Ch4se to do a remix of his classic "Limb by Limb". Cutty’s resurgence also has him performing widely in Panama, Columbia and the Latin clubs in Miami before the outbreak of the coronavirus.
